From here to thereAs we travel from place to place we have been writing
position updates. These updates chronicle the passage as well as some of the
stops in between. We have grouped them into passages for you browse through. Around Vancouver Island
June and July of 2001 we circumnavigated Vancouver
Island. This was a passage for us to relax after two years of refitting
Windarra and to get our sea legs back on the west side. Seattle to San Francisco
August of 2001 we left Seattle and headed south to San Francisco. We left Seattle and worked our way to Neah Bay. The trip from Neah Bay to San Francisco was a 4 day, 12 hour and 13 minute passage, our longest ocean passage. San Francisco to San Diego
After spending 2 ˝ months in the San Francisco area we headed to San Diego at the beginning of October. This included may stops along the way. Baja Ha-Ha

After the Baja Ha-Ha we continued in to the Sea of Cortez. We cross the Sea of Cortez for the Mexican mainland and continue down to Puerto Vallarta. After we returned from the United States we cruised to Tenacatita. Our start did not go as planned since we had propeller problems and had to go into the boatyard. We did make it to Tenacatita. On March 20, 2002 we left Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for Nuku Hiva, Marquises, French Polynesia. It is a passage of 2690 miles and we cross the equator on the way. It took us 23 days to sail from Punta de Mita, Jayarit, Mexico to Taiohae Bay, Nuku Hiva, Iles de Marquises. French Polynesia is a series of islands in the South Pacific. They are grouped into the Iles de Marquises, Archipel des Tuamotu, Iles de la Societe. We visited several islands and atolls in this area. It is Paradise. On July 18, 2002 we left Bora Bora, French Polynesia for Rarotonga, Cook Islands. It is a passage of 540 miles. It took us 4 days to sail to Avatiu Harbor, Rarotonga, Cook Islands. On August 14, 2002 we left Rarotonga, Cook Islands and headed for Niue. Along the way we stopped at Beveridge Reef, a small reef 4 days sail from Rarotonga. After a rest stop in the middle of the ocean we sailed overnight to Niue. On August 29, 2002 we left Alofi, Niue for Neiafu, Vava’u, Kingdom of Tonga. The Vava’u group of islands in Tonga is a popular cruising ground with several islands all within a day sail. It is similar to Desolation Sound, with palm trees. After more than six months in the South Pacific it was time to head for New Zealand to avoid cyclone season. On October 29, 2002, we left Nuku’alofa, Tongatapu, Kingdom of Tonga and headed for Opua on North Island. Along the way we passed Minerva Reef. We arrived in Opua 9.5 days later. It was getting cold in New Zealand and after six months we decided to head for warmer weather in Australia. On May 8, 2003 we left Opua to cross the Tasman Sea bound for Brisbane in the land of Oz. We arrived at Scarborough Marina on May 19. |
